September 2002 Newsletter An Automated Embryo Sorter for Smaller Fly Labs Rapid, accurate analysis / sorting of Drosophila embryos, at a lower cost! |
|
| Responding to
market needs for a lower-cost, automated instrument for rapid sorting of
Drosophila embryos, Union Biometrica is pleased to announce the new COPAS
EXPRESS Embryo Sorter. Traditionally, researchers have had limited methods
available to them for the analysis and sorting of Drosophila embryos. Time
consuming manual microscopy limits the type and scope of experiments, while
other automated technologies are too expensive for budget constrained
laboratories. The COPAS EXPRESS automates the analysis and sorting of Drosophila embryos using the embryo size, optical density, and one channel of fluorescence for GFP markers. The real time-analysis of these parameters is then used to sort and dispense embryos into stationary receptacles such as a conical tube or a Petri dish, making it ideal for applications such as bulk rare events screening and population enrichment. |

COPAS Capabilities, Lower Cost: Similar to the proven COPAS SELECT from Union Biometrica, the specially designed gentle pneumatic sorting mechanism located after the flow cell does not harm or change objects, and is therefore safe even for the collection of live biological materials. Using the COPAS EXPRESS automated sorter, the time required for Drosophila embryo experiments is dramatically reduced, human error is eliminated, and new experiments that previously could not be considered are now possible. |
